Gary McKee awarded Freedom of Copeland

MARATHON man Gary McKee has been awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Copeland.
Mr McKee, who ran 100 marathons in 100 days for Macmillan Cancer Support, received the rare accolade – the highest a local authority can bestow – at a ceremony in his home town of Cleator Moor today (Friday).
Mr McKee said he was “humbled” to have received the accolade, and extended his thanks to all those who have supported him.

THE high quality of new developments in Copeland has been praised by the borough council’s planning team.
Copeland Council’s planning department, including officers and the decision-making councillors, spent a day visiting developments that have been completed over the past 12 months.

COPELAND Council is investing in its workforce by welcoming six new apprentices this week.
The new staff members will complete 18-month apprenticeships, undergoing training and gaining nationally-recognised qualifications along the way.
First 10 businesses benefit from Mayor’s Scheme

TEN town centre businesses have reaped the rewards of Copeland Mayor Mike Starkie’s transformational regeneration scheme.
Over £35,000 of the fund has been awarded so far to businesses in Whitehaven, Millom and Cleator Moor.
Successful applicants include; Sporthouse, The Vine, Shakers, The Senhouse Centre, Savvy, The Flower Basket, Union Hall and Dixons, all in Whitehaven Town Centre. Also receiving grants are the Town Council building in Cleator Moor and Cambridge House Hotel in Millom.
Sarah Hodgson chops her locks for charity

RECENT bride Sarah Hodgson has chopped off her long locks for charity.
Sarah, who recently got married to her partner of 10 years, decided she would donate 12 inches of her hair to children who have lost theirs through cancer and other illnesses.
The Little Princess Trust provides wigs for children suffering with hair loss. Although the wigs are provided to those in need free of charge, they cost around £350 - £500 to produce.
Mayor to hold public meeting in Seascale

COPELAND Mayor Mike Starkie has announced a public meeting in Seascale.
Mr Starkie will hold the event in Seascale Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday, October 18 at 6.30pm, to give residents the chance to hear updates on a host of Copeland Council projects and to raise their own questions and issues.
Mr Starkie said: "When I was elected as Mayor I made a pledge that the Council will be open and transparent, and be accountable to the public.

Members of the public are invited to give their views to Copeland Council on a host of strategic issues including housing, employment and wind energy, and the type of locations that may be suitable for each.
