Sellafield Ltd has commissioned and published a report, by Oxford Economics, entitled 'The Economic Impact of Sellafield', which highlights key issues affecting Copeland's economy.
The report has been received and considered by Copeland Borough Council and Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, has made the following statement:

SCHOOL pupils across West Cumbria are honouring the area’s lost heroes by taking part in a poignant World War One project.
Orgill, Bransty, Moor Row and Black Combe schools are hosting Silent Soldier silhouettes in their grounds as part of a community project. Their pupils – and those from eight other West Cumbrian schools taking part in the project – will now research their local war memorials and contribute a poem, short story or drawing to an upcoming exhibition, A Brave New World: the Armistice and Beyond, at The Beacon Museum, Whitehaven.

COPELAND Borough Council is running its popular 'recycling roadshows' to celebrate National Recycling Week.
Council staff will be getting out to events in Millom and Whitehaven to update people on the kerbside scheme, answer all their questions and get their feedback on how they recycle.
Copeland began the new scheme, which collects card and plastic as well as paper, glass and metal, in April. More than 96 per cent of homes in Copeland are served by the kerbside service.

AN inclusive cycling event held in Whitehaven has been hailed as a major success.
School pupils from Mayfield, Bransty and Frizington enjoyed the Wheels For All event, held at Copeland Stadium, where they were able to try a wide range of adapted cycles. Also taking part were members of staff from Age UK West Cumbria.
The event was organised by Cycling Projects, in conjunction with Copeland Council and GLL, and it is now hoped that it can become a regular activity in Copeland.

COPELAND Borough Council is urging landlords to make sure they comply with changes to the law for houses in multiple occupation.
Previously houses in multiple occupation only needed to be licensed if they were three storeys or above - this classification has now been removed. Minimum room sizes have also been introduced.
Licensable Houses in multiple occupation are those which house five or more people in more than one household.
The legislation does not apply if the room is not the tenant’s main place of residence.

COPELAND Council has vowed to clamp down on unacceptable behaviour towards its staff and members.
The council has adopted a new Unacceptable Behaviour Policy, after an increase in incidents, that will come into play with immediate effect.
The policy identifies how staff and members should deal with aggressive or abusive behaviour, vexatious requests or complaints, and unacceptable levels of persistence and demands.
The organisation has adopted a zero-tolerance stance and is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for its employees.
