Local authority searches
A local authority search is usually requested by a solicitor on behalf of purchasers of land or property, and forms part of the conveyancing process. The standard questions give potential buyers details of any restrictions or legal obligations that are enforceable against successive owners.
A full search is made up of an LLC1 and CON29 enquiries.
The Con29 (Standard Enquiries of the Local Authority) search shows information about planning, building regulations, highways and environmental services. CON29 comprises of required and optional parts.

Personal Searches
The majority of searches are carried out through solicitors, however any individual can search the Land Charges Register using our online mapping service for free.
For further information requests must be sent to the department in which the original information is held. for example - Building Control, Housing, Environmental Health.
Any properties falling within the boundaries of the Lake District National Park must obtain the planning information from the Lake District National Park Authority.
