Date for Copeland Council's Annual General Meeting

RESIDENTS are invited to attend Copeland Borough Council's Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 9 at 2pm in Egremont Market Hall.

Members of the press are also invited to report and take photographs.

The occasion will include the appointment of the chairman and deputy chairman of the council for the forthcoming year, along with a look back at the previous year from the mayor Mike Starkie.

It will be followed at 3.15pm by an Extraordinary Meeting of the council.

New woman at the helm of Whitehaven Market

THE new woman at the helm of Whitehaven Market is relishing the chance to bring "an injection of life" into the historic attraction.

April Garner started her new role this month, and says that the twice-weekly market can play a key role in attracting shoppers into Whitehaven. With a background in sales,  April is "brimming with ideas" on how she plans to achieve her aims.

Scheme launched to help save residents money

A FREE scheme to help residents save money on their energy bills has been launched by Copeland Council.

The Copeland Big Switch returns following a successful initial campaign earlier this year, in which a high number of householders saved large amounts on their bills.

The scheme involves the organisers creating a large group of customers interested in cheaper tariffs, who then offer their custom as a group to the energy firm offering the best deal.

Success for planning team

THE planning team at Copeland Council is celebrating a remarkable turnaround in its fortunes over the last 12 months.

The team has surpassed a series of Government-set targets for the speed in which it processes applications, with a success rate of over 90 per cent in all categories.
