Register to Vote or Lose Out

Copeland Borough Council is urging local residents not yet registered to vote to go online now to register.
There are only 11 weeks until voters go to the polls to elect a Member of Parliament for Copeland, and for the first time, a directly elected Mayor. Local elections are also taking place on the same day. Anyone not registered can do so at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
US Navy Attaché visits Beacon Museum

THE Beacon Museum welcomed US Navy Defence Attaché, Captain David Strachner as part of the annual John Paul Jones commemoration today, February 11.
Mayor of Copeland, Cllr Eileen Eastwood and Honorary Consul to the US Navy in Whitehaven, Rob Romano joined the party to see the museums displays relating to the town’s Anglo-American links, as well as the John Paul Jones stories.
Householders could be eligible for flood grants

THERE is still time for Copeland householders to apply for grants to make their homes more resistant to floods – but the scheme closes in mid-February.
And the good news is the government grant scheme has now expanded – people can now apply if they were flooded as far back as April 1 2013.
Previously the money was only available if someone had been flooded between December 1 2013 and March 31 2014.
