Fun free day helping out at Haig

The Haig Mining Museum in Whitehaven is hosting two fun volunteer days when people can get involved in sprucing up the museum’s surroundings. 

 

The events have been organised as part of the Whitehaven Lengthsman scheme funded by Copeland Community Fund and Copeland Borough Council.

 

There are two sessions:

  • Wednesday August 19, 10am until 2pm

Business Broadband Vouchers

Copeland businesses with a CA postcode looking to update to a faster, more reliable internet connection can apply for a grant of up to £3,000 as Copeland Borough Council’s Executive agree to sign up to the Carlisle City Broadband Voucher scheme.

 

The Executive also agreed to lobby to have the scheme extended to include areas in the south of the borough with the LA postcode.

Copeland’s annual electoral canvass begins this month, and residents are being urged not to lose their right to vote.

 

The annual event asks people to confirm their details, or make any changes, so that they can be included on the new Register of Electors, which will be published on December 1.

 

Council meetings hit the road

The Executive committee meeting, on Tuesday August 4 at Millom Network Centre, marks the first such meeting outside Whitehaven in several years. There will be more around the borough as the council strives to create a more accessible and democratic organisation.

 

Mayor Mike Starkie said: “By taking the council meetings out to the town across the borough the easier it is for people to get involved in the decision making and democratic process that affects their communities.
