Copeland’s award-winning beaches

Three of Copeland’s beautiful beaches have won a sought-after Seaside Award.

St Bees, Silecroft and Haverigg – all managed by Copeland Borough Council – have been named as having the very highest standards for cleanliness and facilities.

The Seaside Awards are given out by Keep Britain Tidy and there are just 14 beaches in the whole of the north west of England that have achieved the quality mark.

Whitehaven Parish Council hold first meeting

The first Whitehaven Parish Council meeting was held last night (21 May) to consider next steps and make a decision as to whether the Parish Council should adopt a new name.

 

The decision to set up the Parish Council was taken after Copeland Borough Council received a 2,500 signature petition and undertook a lengthy two stage consultation process, of which 70 per cent of respondents said they wanted to see a parish council formed.

Castle Park closes for road refurbishment

COPELAND Borough Council would like to inform the public that there will be some road disruptions affecting users of Castle Park on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. This is in order to allow resurfacing and patching of the roads and footpaths in this area.

There will be minimum disruption on Wednesday and Friday whilst preparation and finishing works are carried out, with only small sections of the access being closed off at any one time. All roads and paths will be fully closed on Thursday 14 May whilst the machinery and wagons are laying the tarmac.
