Poster urges public to help ease seagull nuisance

The public are being asked to help reduce the nuisance being caused by seagulls in a poster produced by Copeland Borough Council.
The council has received no complaints about people being attacked by the seagulls in Whitehaven or anywhere else in Copeland, however they are being contacted by residents about the mess the birds cause, rummaging through bin bag for food, and we deal with these issues swiftly.
Elected Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie said: “We realise seagulls, whilst a defining feature of any seaside town, do cause problems.
Mayor meets traders at successful farmer's market

Traders at a popular West Cumbrian farmers’ market have been sharing the secrets of their commercial success with the mayor of Copeland Mike Starkie.
Chair of Egremont Farmers, Craft and Fair Trade Market, Helen Shipton-Smith invited the Mayor to visit the monthly market, and meet the independent traders, including Haverigg Prison where prisoners learn the art of smoking fish and meat, and the award winning produce is sold under the ARETE Enterprise - The Smokery label.
Mayor launches Community Forum

The Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie hosted the inaugural meeting of the Copeland Community Forum, giving every sector of life in the borough a voice.
Representatives from education, health, sport, police, media, charities, community groups, local business, and young people have been invited to form the Forum to focus on the issues that concern the people of Copeland and work together to improve the lives of residents and visitors to the area.
Putting the pride back into Copeland

Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie is set to relaunch the Pride in Copeland awards to recognise the great achievements being made by owners of buildings in the borough and encourage others to improve their premises.
The last Copeland Pride awards for the best buildings in the borough were held in 2012, with the Woolpack Inn in Eskdale taking the top award and Haverigg Lighthouse and Gillerthwaite Field Centre in the Ennerdale valley taking the runner-up prizes.

Cycle Relay to Launch Copeland’s New Interpretation Boards
