New alarm regulations on agenda for Landlords'

New regulations affecting landlords were discussed at a forum run by Copeland Borough Council for property owners in the borough.

The regular landlords’ forum is a way for the council to share advice, changes in legislation and the council’s own policies.

Copeland’s Director of Customer and Community Services, Julie Betteridge, said: “We had a really constructive meeting. An officer from the fire service attended to discuss the new regulations regarding smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, which came into effect on October 1.

Copeland starts new boundary review

Copeland councillors agreed to move forward with a review of the borough’s boundaries at last night's full Council meeting (October 1).

They will formally ask that the Local Government Boundary Commission begins a review in 2016.

The commission will look at the size, geography and population of Copeland and make recommendations on how many councillors in each ward are needed to effectively govern it.

Mayor’s regalia open to the people of Copeland

Former civic mayors of Copeland joined the current chairman of council Cllr John Kane and Copeland’s last civic mayor Eileen Eastwood yesterday, to hand over the official mayoral regalia to The Beacon Museum.

Following Copeland’s historic poll in May, in which locals voted for the first elected mayor of Copeland Mike Starkie, the duties and responsibilities of the former civic mayor were handed to the new chair of the council.
