Council helps to address community housing need

INDIVIDUALS and groups are being offered expert help to address housing needs in their own communities.

Copeland Council has joined forces with ACTion With Communities in Cumbria for the Community-Led Housing Initiative, which is assisting people to identify, create and manage housing in their local areas.

The project’s specialist team is currently working with a community organisation, a village hall committee and a number of individuals on projects across the borough, and the scheme continues to be open for interested parties to access the free support on offer.

Mayor to hold budget consultation events

COPELAND Mayor Mike Starkie is inviting the borough's business community to hear more about his budget plans.

Mr Starkie will hold two open events to outline Copeland Council's proposed spending for 2018/19.

Specifically aimed at members of the business community, the sessions will take place at Millom Network Centre on Tuesday, January 23 (5pm) and The Beacon Portal, Whitehaven, on Thursday, January 25 (5.30pm).

Council launches Pride of Place scheme

COPELAND Council are launching a scheme to encourage residents and businesses to take pride in their borough.

The Copeland Pride of Place initiative aims to encourage locals to take pride in their area and work towards making Copeland a better place to live, work and visit.

The scheme will also help to tackle issues that blight the borough, such as fly-tipping, littering and dog-fouling, and will encourage businesses to improve commercial premises through the £1m Town Centre Regeneration scheme.

Free festive parking in Copeland

CHRISTMAS shoppers in Copeland can enjoy free parking this festive period thanks to Copeland Borough Council.

The Council has announced that from December 23 to January 1 (inclusive) it will be free to park at the nine car parks that it operates.

This includes: School House Lane, Senhouse Street, Whitehaven Sports Centre, Copeland Centre (weekends only), The Beacon and North Shore (all Whitehaven); Chapel Street and Beck Green (both Egremont); and St Bees Foreshore.

Copeland residents urged to recycle

COPELAND residents are being encouraged to do their bit for the environment by recycling all their festive packaging this Christmas.

Copeland Council is continuing to operate its kerbside recycling service throughout the festive period. And for the extra waste that cannot fit into residents’ black boxes (currently for glass, paper and tins/cans), the council operates over 30 recycling sites across the borough.
