St Bees Head Heritage Coast consultation closing

TIME is running out for residents to have their say on the possible extension of St Bees Head Heritage Coast.

St Bees Head is the only Heritage Coast between Wales and Scotland, and the only area of high sea cliffs in the north-west.

Currently the designated area for the current St Bees Head Heritage Coast includes St Bees Head. The proposal suggests that the designation could stretch up the coast as far as Whitehaven.

Copeland Council to host Tourism Summit

COPELAND Council will host the first Copeland Tourism Summit this month to showcase the “outstanding” tourism opportunities within the borough.

 

Hosted by Mike Starkie, the Mayor of Copeland, the February 15 Summit will feature a range of speakers from different sectors of the industry who will make commitments towards increasing tourism in the borough.

 

Briefing sessions for prospective candidates

COPELAND Borough Council is holding a series of briefing sessions for prospective candidates in the upcoming local elections.

Prospective candidates, election agents and parish clerks are invited to the guidance sessions ahead of the May 2 mayoral, borough council and town/parish council elections.

In addition to discussing the election process and timetable, council officers will also talk about the roles and responsibilities of councillors. Information packs will be available.

40-year anniversary for much loved gardener

A valued employee of Copeland Borough Council is celebrating 40 years of nurturing the borough.

Ian Pearce, aged 58, has spent four decades as a gardener mowing, planting, weeding, sweeping and maintaining parks and open spaces in Copeland, having joined the Council in 1978.

Mr Pearce has refined his skills in horticulture over the years having started working life at Beck Green nurseries, in Egremont, moving on to maintain Egremont Castle grounds for 10 years.
