Copeland Council praised by review team

COPELAND Council has received a positive report from an external review team.
The council took part in a Corporate Peer Challenge, organised by the Local Government Association (LGA), in order to evaluate, improve and challenge its performance.
The review team, made up of elected members and officers from a range of councils across the UK, spent three days in Copeland touring the area, attending council meetings and interviewing more than 80 members of staff, councillors and external partners.

Copeland businesses to receive discounted rates

A TOTAL of 250 businesses in Copeland have received a further discount on their rates bills.
Copeland Council, under its Discretionary Discount Scheme, has applied a further reduction to firms in the borough whose rates increased as part of a Government reassessment of rateable values in 2017.
Whitehaven town centre gardens transformed

WORK has started to revitalise St Nicholas’ Gardens, Whitehaven.
Copeland Borough Council’s Parks and Open Spaces team has begun digging up flower beds, weeding paths and edging the lawns, in preparation for bed planting in spring.
The work needed to rejuvenate the gardens will take place over the next nine days and will leave the area looking neat and tidy for residents to enjoy.
The programme of works has been part funded by Whitehaven Town Council in partnership with the Parish of Whitehaven Church Council.
