Apprentice subsidy available for Copeland firms

BUSINESSES in Copeland can now take advantage of a new subsidy to encourage apprentice employment.

Small-sized employers across the borough can receive a £3,000 subsidy towards a new apprentice’s salary.

Copeland Work and Skills Partnership – led by Copeland Council and funded by Copeland Community Fund and Sellafield Ltd – has launched the subsidy to encourage employers to support young people (aged 18 to 24) into employment.

Copeland and Allerdale sign MoU

COPELAND Borough Council and Allerdale Borough Council are proposing to establish joint working and collaborative arrangements for the communities they collectively serve in West Cumbria.   

 

Under a jointly created and signed Memorandum of Understanding, the two councils are proposing to work together in order to: 

 

·         Drive, with a consistent message, the shared economic opportunities for West Cumbria as one place 

·         Create more efficient public service delivery 

Katie to lead Copeland’s tourism agenda

MAKING Copeland “the place to be” for visitors is the aim of Copeland Council’s newly-appointed Tourism Sector Development Officer.

Katie Read, who has extensive experience in the tourism sector, took up the post last week and her role will see her work with the private and public sector, as well as community partners, to develop new products, activities and attractions in the borough to increase visitor numbers.

Copeland is buzzing about new wildlife project

WORK will begin on an exciting project to protect and reintroduce pollinators in Copeland this week.

Volunteers are urged to take part in bulb planting sessions across Whitehaven and Distington as part of the £1.6 million ‘Get Cumbria Buzzing’ project which aims to tackle a decline in bees and other pollinators.

Copeland Council, a partner in the three-year project, has received £60,000 to create havens for insects spanning almost 10,000 square meters.
