Anti-social behaviour warnings

COPELAND Council’s enforcement team has issued 36 warnings for anti-social behaviour in Whitehaven.

The Council introduced Public Space Protection Orders in areas across the borough during the summer to deter nuisance behaviour in relation to public alcohol consumption and dog control.

PSPO’s relating to alcohol were introduced in specific areas in; Whitehaven town centre, Hensingham, Kells, Cleator Moor, Distington, Egremont, Frizington and Millom.

Students complete prestigious qualification

A GROUP of dedicated young people have taken strides towards reaching their full potential with the completion of a prestigious qualification. 

Nine participants on the Realising Our Potential project have received their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards, following a two-day expedition in Ennerdale, involving camping, cooking and map-reading. The expedition was led by Richard Wilson and Nick Landles from Cumbria Youth Alliance.

Service to continue thanks to £170,000 funding

A VITAL service to support victims of domestic abuse in Copeland will continue thanks to a £170,000 funding pledge.

Sellafield Ltd and Copeland Community Fund have awarded Copeland Council £60,000 and £58,683 respectively to fund Copeland Borough Council’s Prevention and Crisis Support Officer for a further three years.  The remaining funding is being provided by other funders and in-kind support from Copeland Council.

Copeland Council is a great place to work, according to its employees.

More than 90 per cent of employees who took part in an annual staff survey said that they got job satisfaction for their role.

More than 84 per cent of survey respondents would encourage someone to work at Copeland Council and more than 81 per cent felt they had a good work life balance.

Colleagues welcomed the survey and the chance to have their say on how the how the organisation will progress in future.

St Bees School opens two new schools in China

A UNIQUE educational partnership between West Cumbria and China has been strengthened with the opening of two new schools.

The historic St Bees School has this week opened two offspring schools in China – a primary school in Shijiazhuang in the Hebei Province and a high school in Dongguan in the Guangdong Province – both of which will take the iconic ‘St Bees’ name.
