The Copeland Pride of Place campaign aims to encourage residents and businesses to take pride in their borough and work towards making Copeland a better place to live, work and visit. To discover the latest from our campaign go to our facebook or twitter pages. 

In late 2017, we launched the campaign with the specific aim to help combat fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling.

Copeland's beautiful coastline has an important role to play. It supports recreation, fishing and farming as well as tourism with day trippers and holiday makers.

Even if you live a long way from a river or the sea, floods can happen anywhere from a variety of sources which include surface water, blocked sewers and groundwater as well as rivers and the sea. Generally, it is up to the landowner to maintain any flood defences and to take reasonable steps not to increase the flood risk to anyone else.

A variety of authorities will investigate flooding depending on where it occurs and will have plans to decrease the risk of flooding.

Flooding can occur at any time for a number of reasons. We cannot stop flooding but we can all take steps to reduce the risks of it. It is best to be prepared. Find out if you live in a property that is known to be at the risk of flooding by checking out the maps on the Environment Agency's website. There are also booklets available with advice on how best to take precautions.

What is registration?

Registration of premises used for a food business (including market stalls, delivery vehicles and other moveable structures) is required by law. Registration allows us to keep an up to date list of all premises in our area so we can inspect them as required. The frequency of the visits will depend on the type of business and the degree of risk involved.

We carry out assessments of every establishment in Copeland whose business involves animals. Assessments cover the care given to the animals, hygiene and cleanliness, staffing levels, training, and health and safety.

Millom community asked for conservation views

MEMBERS of the Millom community are being asked for their views on the town’s conservation area.

Copeland Council has launched a four-week consultation to invite feedback on its draft appraisal document, which outlines the special interest of Millom’s conservation area, referring to its development, character and appearance.

The council will incorporate feedback received during the consultation into its final document that will be used to aid decision-making in the town.
