Copeland Council welcomes Energy White Paper

In response to the Government's publication of its Energy White Paper, the following statement is made by Councillor David Moore, Copeland Council's Portfolio Holder for Nuclear and Corporate Services:

"Copeland Borough Council welcomes the Government’s Energy White Paper, which makes a strong commitment to turn the UK’s climate ambitions into climate action, through the delivery of the UK’s future clean energy system.

Wet-led pubs in Copeland invited to apply for £1,000 grant

COPELAND Borough Council is inviting wet-led pubs in Copeland to apply for a £1,000 Christmas Support Payment.

The Government grant for wet-led pubs is a one-off payment for premises that fall under Tier 2 or 3 restrictions between December 2 and 29.

Cumbria is currently under Tier 2, therefore the borough’s wet-led pubs are eligible for this payment.

Wet-led pubs are those that derive under 50 per cent of their income from food sales.

Council appoints Covid-19 support officers

Copeland Council is helping to keep its community safe with the appointment of four new dedicated Covid-19 support workers.

The Covid-19 Technical Officers have been appointed to support the council’s key work being carried out by its Public Protection and Environmental Health teams during the pandemic  This includes assisting with the contact-tracing process, ensuring businesses comply with legislation, and offering advice and support to businesses and residents around safety and social distancing.

New Covid-19 testing facility to open in Whitehaven

A new walk-through coronavirus testing facility is to open in the Whitehaven Sports Centre car park on Catherine Street.

Testing at the new site is expected to begin on Saturday 19 December. Testing is available for everyone, with additional support for vulnerable groups and people with disabilities.

The testing site is part of the Government’s UK-wide drive to improve the accessibility of coronavirus testing for communities.
