Council issues reminder on cemetery rules

Published: 20/01/2021

COPELAND Council is reminding visitors to its cemeteries that cars are not permitted within the grounds.

The reminder comes as tyre-damage was discovered from unauthorised vehicles using grassed areas close to graves at Hensingham and Whitehaven cemeteries.

No vehicles are allowed in the cemetery other than those connected with a funeral and must not be driven at a speed exceeding 5mph. This applies to cemeteries at Whitehaven, Hensingham, Millom, Nether Wasdale and Beckermet.

COPELAND Council has commissioned stunning video footage encouraging visitors to the Lake District Coast once it is safe to travel.

The videos capture picturesque scenes from along the coastline and it’s hoped local businesses will use them in their marketing to bring visitors back, once it is safe to do so.

The videos are accompanied by a set of incredible still pictures of this beautiful part of the world, and the suite of materials has been funded by the Connecting Cumbria’s Hidden Coast project.
