Farewell to Festive Fats

Copeland Council is urging people to help protect our seawaters during this festive season.

The council is supporting the #Binit4Beaches campaign, which encourages people to bin their cooking fat instead of pouring it down the sink in the run up to Christmas.

Putting leftover fat down the sink blocks drains and floods sewers - an expensive problem for both the householder and the water company. Even with soap and hot water, grease sticks to and hardens on sewage pipes, damaging the system.

Copeland Council is putting out some useful information about its services over the festive period.

The council’s opening hours are as follows:

The Copeland Centre

Friday December 23 - 8.45am until 1pm.

We reopen at 9am on Tuesday January 3.

Millom office

The Millom office will close on Friday December 23 at 3pm and re-open on January 3 at 9am.

Copeland has a succesful tradition of self build developments in the borough.

Copeland's Big Switch

COPELAND Council is launching a scheme to help residents save money on their energy bills.

And the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and portfolio holder were the very first to sign up.

The Copeland Big Switch hopes to create a large group of people interested in cheaper tariffs, then offer their custom to the energy firm offering the best deal.

Residents can express an interest in being part of the scheme, run by ichoosr in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau and Age Concern, from today (December 6).
