Employers urged to sign up

EMPLOYERS can boost their chances of filling vacancies by signing up to a work academy programme.

Copeland Work and Skills Partnership runs sector-based academies to help unemployed people get the basic skills, experience and confidence they need to get back into work.

Featuring short training courses, mock interviews, work experience and support with applications, they are delivered in partnership with employers who have current or future vacancies. Employers who have taken part in previous academies have identified candidates for their company.

Beacon Easter activities

The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven has a host of arty activities on offer for the Easter break.

The busy fortnight includes prominent local artists and a brand new exhibition.

Currently Pirates Pants and Wellyphants, a witty interactive art exhibition, is proving a massive hit with younger families. Children have been designing pants in an effort to catch the attention of Nick Sharratt, the famous illustrator behind the exhibition.

Green waste collections restart

AS SPRING approaches, Copeland Council is about to restart its garden waste collection service.

The service, suspended during the winter months, will begin again in the week beginning Monday March 19.

The fortnightly collections are for grass, leaves, clippings and small branches. Residents can get a full list of what can and can’t be put in their garden bin at www.copeland.gov.uk. They will also find their waste collection calendar there, telling them what date their collection is due on.
