COPELAND Council is highlighting its support for various groups helping the residents of Copeland.
The council provides regular funding in exchange for services in the community.
Copeland Citizens’ Advice receives £32,000 to help address the problems of hardship, debt and financial exclusion. It offers counselling and practical advice on a wide range of issues including Universal Credit, budgeting and welfare.

A STUDENT Police Officer has been given a “valuable insight” into the work Copeland Council’s Housing team carries out in the community.
PC Rebecca Clark spent a three-day placement with the team last week to gain an understanding of the crucial work it does to prevent homelessness and assist those affected by domestic violence.
The placement is part of PC Clark’s 15-week training programme from Cumbria Constabulary’s Penrith Headquarters.
PC Clark said: “I will take a great deal away from this time spent with Copeland Council.

APPLICATIONS are now open for a host of modern apprentice opportunities at Copeland Council.
The council is currently recruiting six apprentices, offering employment and training in the Parks, Economic Development, Revenues and Benefits, Environmental Health and Building Control/Housing departments. The apprenticeships vary from 18 months to five years.

LOCAL builders were given the chance to improve their stonemasonry skills through a specialist masterclass.
The banker masonry course was open to apprentices, builders and those with practical experience of the trade.
The masterclass was attended by eight people who were introduced to various techniques which were explored through talks, demonstrations and workshops.

CREATIVE school pupils have joined the fight against irresponsible dog-owners in Copeland.
Children from schools across the borough have taken part in a ‘design a poster’ competition to encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets.
Copeland Council held the contest as part of its Pride of Place campaign and the five winning posters will be used in the press, on social media and distributed around the area to raise awareness of the issue.

COPELAND Council is supporting a free event at St Bees, especially for dogs and their owners.
The community dog walk event is on July 11, from 11am until 3pm, and follows a successful one at Haverigg beach.
It is run by the Turning Tides Partnership, of which Copeland Council is a member. The event is part of the LOVEmyBEACH campaign for clean, safe beaches and seas.
Dog owners will be able to chat to Copeland Council's dog wardens, meet other owners and find out more about keeping beaches and seas clean.
