Business boost for Copeland

Published: 18/07/2019

A TOTAL of 129 businesses were opened or relaunched in Copeland during the last year, new figures reveal.

Copeland Council has reported the figure based on those who registered for National Non Domestic Rates (NNDR), known as business rates, from May 2018 to April 2019.

The list includes shops, cafes, pubs, playgroups, warehouses, beauty salons, offices and guest houses, with July (13) and November (19) the busiest months for new or relaunched businesses.

Council supports people with Facilities Grants

Published: 15/07/2019

COPELAND Council has supported almost 150 residents to live safely and independently in their own homes during the last year, new figures reveal.

The council administered 148 Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) in 2018/19, to allow homes to be adapted to suit the occupant’s needs, often in response to a change in mobility levels, an accident or ill health.

Adaptations have included the installation of through-floor lifts, stairlifts and ramps, adapted bathrooms, door-widening and ground-floor extensions. Twenty of the adaptations have been carried out for children.
