Easter opening hours and waste collections

COPELAND Borough Council offices (including Market Hall) will be closed from 5pm on Thursday, March 29, until 9am on Tuesday, April 3.

The Millom office will close at 3pm on March 29 and will remain closed until 9am on April 3.  

The Distington Hall Crematorium office will close at 4.30pm on March 29 and will reopen on April 3. The Chapel of Remembrance is open from 9am until 4.30pm every day throughout the Easter period.  

All household waste and recycling collections will continue as normal on Good Friday (March 30).

Dog-lover Rob boosts his business pedigree

A DOG-LOVER has boosted his business pedigree with the completion of an apprenticeship.

Rob Mason, who works at Horse & Husky in Bootle, reached “the highest standards” in Level 2 Business Administration, according to his tutor.

Rob’s role at Horse & Husky combines accompanying customers on ‘mushing’ and hiking sessions with the pack of huskies, in addition to the bookings and marketing aspects of the business.

Locals build heritage skills

Residents and building professionals learned how to conserve heritage stonework in workshops hosted by Copeland Borough Council.

The events, which explained the specialist methods needed for masonry in older buildings, were part of the Townscape Heritage Initiative, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Britain's Energy Coast, Copeland Council and Cumbria County Council. 

Copeland Council to offer free recycling lids

COPELAND Council has listened to the views of its residents, and is to offer free lids for its new recycling boxes.

The scheme, which collects five separate materials at the kerbside, starts on April 16 and covers 96 per cent of households.

Mayor Mike Starkie said: "We originally planned to charge for the lids but residents have told us they will find it easier to manage their recycling at home by having lids and that they should be free - and we have listened. Every resident on a recycling who wants a lid or cover will be able to collect three free.

Employers urged to sign up

EMPLOYERS can boost their chances of filling vacancies by signing up to a work academy programme.

Copeland Work and Skills Partnership runs sector-based academies to help unemployed people get the basic skills, experience and confidence they need to get back into work.

Featuring short training courses, mock interviews, work experience and support with applications, they are delivered in partnership with employers who have current or future vacancies. Employers who have taken part in previous academies have identified candidates for their company.
