Community joins forces for clean-up

A CHURCH grounds has received a spruce up thanks to a community litter-pick.

A host of organisations joined forces to tidy the grounds of St John’s Church, Cleator Moor, and the surrounding area.

The event was organised for the pupils of the Energy Coast UTC, at Lillyhall, as part of the Future Pathways programme run by Copeland Hub.

Joining the pupils were volunteers from Cumbria Constabulary, Copeland Borough Council and Home Group, while a free lunch was provided by the neighbouring Co-op.

Dozens of bags were collected during the session.

Mayor praises medical campus

A STATE-OF-THE-ART medical training centre is one of the ‘jewels in Copeland’s crown’, says the borough’s Mayor.

Mike Starkie took a tour of the University of Central Lancashire’s Westlakes Campus and its “first class” research and training facilities that are producing the next generation of medical professionals.

Mr Starkie said: “I was delighted to visit the campus once again to tour the cutting-edge facilities and hear about the outstanding work and study that’s taking place to continue ensuring the sustainability of our health service locally.

Staff to smarten up beauty spots

COPELAND Borough Council is inviting the community to join its staff in two litter picks as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

Colleagues will team up with members of the public in Mirehouse and Whitehaven town centre on Monday, April 8.

The events are:

- 10am until 12 noon on the footpaths crossing the cycle path at Mirehouse. Meet at the entrance to the cycle path adjoining Uldale Road.

Businesses invited to VIP preview event

TOURISM businesses in Copeland are invited for a sneak preview of the borough’s new Visitor Information Point.

The Visitor Information Point, based in The Beacon Museum, Whitehaven, will offer a wealth of information and links on Copeland’s tourism offer – including attractions, accommodation, transport and hospitality – when it opens its doors on Saturday, March 30.
