COPELAND Borough Council has issued two Public Space Protection Orders in an effort to tackle anti-social behaviour in the borough.
The orders give the council and police extra powers in relation to public alcohol consumption and dog control in a host of areas borough-wide.

COPELAND Council has pledged its commitment to a culture of mutual support between the community and the armed forces.
Ahead of Saturday’s Armed Forces Day, Mike Starkie, Joan Hully and Allan Forster – Copeland’s Mayor, Chair and Armed Forces Champion – re-signed the Armed Forces and Community Covenant on behalf of the borough.
It sets out how the community and armed forces personnel, past and present, should support one another.

MAYFIELD School students joined local organisations to give Mirehouse Community Centre a revamp on Monday (June 24).
The students spent time painting the walls alongside decorating firm Bell Decorating Group, who offered to paint the centre free of charge. The decorating firm also gave out free paint to residents throughout the day.
The day was part of the 10-week Future Pathways programme which aims to encourage children to give back to their community as well as teaching them key skills through team-building activities.

COPELAND Council’s Housing team prevented 143 households from becoming homeless in the last year, new figures reveal.
More than 500 people sought the council’s advice on housing matters in 2018/19, and the team also helped secure alternative accommodation for 184 individuals or families who had to leave their homes.
The Housing team works every day with individuals, families, support agencies and landlords to prevent people from having to leave their homes, and helps to find alternative accommodation for those that do have to leave.

COPELAND Council is offering a wealth of information and guidance to private landlords who have properties in the borough.
A dedicated Private Landlords’ Forum will be held on June 26 at 1pm until around 2.30pm, at the Copeland Centre, Whitehaven.
Staff from Copeland Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be covering topics including changes in legislation and shifts in the payment process in relation to Universal Credit.

COPELAND Council has taken in 50 stray dogs from the borough’s streets over a period of 12 months (April 18 to March 19).
The Council’s Enforcement Officers have collected a range of breeds including Spaniels, Lurchers, Huskies, Terriers and Labradors.
Once a dog is detained by officers it is then taken to Whinmill Farm, High Harrington where the owner can claim and collect the animal. If they had been microchipped officers could have returned the dog to its home address.
