Waste dumped near Household Waste Recycling Centre

WASTE has been dumped less than 2.5 miles away from a Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Items including household waste, wood and metal were fly-tipped at the entrance to Eskett Quarry, Frizington.

This dump site is near to Frizington Household Waste Recycling Centre, where the materials could have been disposed of correctly.

The items will be removed by Copeland Council at a cost to the taxpayer.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “It’s absolutely outrageous that individuals think this is acceptable.

Public Space Protection Orders deter nuisance behaviour in relation to public alcohol consumption and dog control. These can be enforced by our own officers or by the police.

PSPOs relating to alcohol are in force in areas of: Whitehaven town centre, Hensingham, Kells, Cleator Moor, Distington, Egremont, Frizington and Millom.

The orders give our Enforcement Officers and the police powers to issue fixed penalty notices to people caught drinking alcohol or causing anti-social behaviour in these areas.

In late 2017, we launched the campaign with the specific aim to help combat fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling.

Copeland's beautiful coastline has an important role to play. It supports recreation, fishing and farming as well as tourism with day trippers and holiday makers.

Even if you live a long way from a river or the sea, floods can happen anywhere from a variety of sources which include surface water, blocked sewers and groundwater as well as rivers and the sea. Generally, it is up to the landowner to maintain any flood defences and to take reasonable steps not to increase the flood risk to anyone else.

A variety of authorities will investigate flooding depending on where it occurs and will have plans to decrease the risk of flooding.
