Council's bank holiday arrangements

COPELAND Borough Council's offices will be closed this coming bank holiday Monday, May 27. 

There will be no household waste, garden or recycling collections on Monday and all collections will be one day later than usual that week. If your collection is due on Friday, it will take place on Saturday. 

The Distington Hall Crematorium and its office will also be closed, but the Chapel of Remembrance will be open from 9am until 4.15pm.

The Beacon Museum will be open from 10am until 4.30pm (last entry 3.45pm).

Work starts on crematorium investment

WORK has started on a significant investment programme at Distington Hall Crematorium.

 

Preparatory work is now under way at the Copeland Council-owned facility that will allow for the installation of a new, second cremator.

 

The council has committed substantial funding to purchase and install the cremator that will improve efficiency. Additionally, for the first time, the crematorium will benefit from the installation of specialist equipment in order to improve environmental performance.

 

Elephants go on the road for recycling

COPELAND Council is using striking images on its waste trucks to encourage residents to recycle.

The designs are part of the council's one year anniversary of its kerbside recycling service. In that year, residents recycled an impressive 3,354  tonnes through the kerbside scheme - equivalent to the weight of 650 elephants.

The eye-catching elephant-themed designs thank residents for their environmental commitment, and highlight the need for this to continue.

Mayor and MP issue Sellafield Ltd statement

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, and Trudy Harrison, Member of Parliament for Copeland, have issued the following joint statement in response to Sellafield Ltd's Programme and Project Partners announcement today.

"We welcome the announcement of the Lot Partners on Sellafield Ltd’s Programme and Project Partners (PPP) framework, through which a significant portion of the site’s supply chain services in project and programme management, engineering and design, civil and process construction will be procured over the next 20 years.

Copeland Borough Council line-up unveiled

THE line-up of borough councillors who will serve Copeland for the next four years has been formally unveiled.

Copeland Borough Council’s 33 elected members today attended the Copeland Centre to sign their declarations of acceptance.

Following Thursday’s election the political makeup of the Council stands at 19 Labour councillors, 10 Conservative and four independent.
