Top marks for boarding establishments

TWO Copeland animal boarding establishments are celebrating achieving top marks in a new council ratings system.

Tutehill Boarding Kennels and Cattery, near Pica, and The Whitehouse Boarding Kennels and Cattery, near Cleator, both achieved a ‘five’ rating – the highest possible – following a thorough inspection by Copeland Council’s Environmental Health team.

Planning team is one of UK's best

COPELAND Council continues to have one of the best performing planning departments in the country, according to end-of-year figures.

The council has one of the highest rates nationally for the speed in which it made decisions on planning applications in 2018/19, far exceeding government-set targets.

It also has one of the highest percentage of planning applications approved (98 per cent) and successfully defended every appeal made against its decisions.

Council submits plans for crematorium revamp

PLANS have been submitted for a major improvement scheme at Distington Hall Crematorium.

The plans, lodged this week by Architects Plus on behalf of the facility’s owners Copeland Council, include internal and external modifications that aim to enhance the experience for guests and improve operational areas for staff.

The plans have been produced following consultation with funeral directors, celebrants and members of the clergy. They include:

·       An enlarged opening between the chapel and lobby to allow for extra seating for larger funerals

Council staff net big win for charity

COPELAND Council staff have netted over £1,500 for two good causes in a charity football match.

The council’s Waste Operatives took on a combined team of Parks, Office and Community Services staff at Whitehaven Miners FC, and ran out 5-2 victors.

But the big winners on the day were Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation who will split the proceeds, raised from sponsorship and a post-match raffle.
