Beach cafe plans submitted

A NEW beach cafe for Silecroft has moved a step nearer with the submission of an application to National Park planners.

The application, to build a permanent single-storey cafe on the picturesque shore-side, has been submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority, the planning authority for developments within the park.

Copeland Mayor Mike Starkie said: “The café will be part of an incredible visitor experience as Copeland tourism re-emerges after the health crisis, and goes from strength to strength.”

Almost £7 million cash grants awarded

COPELAND Council has awarded almost £7 million in cash grants to 550 businesses in Copeland.

A total of £6,955,000 in Government grants has been handed to businesses eligible for either the small business grant fund, or the retail, leisure and hospitality grant fund, dependant on rateable value.

Retail, leisure and hospitality businesses are also eligible for 100 per cent business rate relief, for a period of 12 months, irrespective of rateable value.

Easter weekend arrangements

COPELAND Council is informing residents of its Bank Holiday weekend arrangements.

Household recycling and waste collections scheduled on April 10 (Good Friday) will be collected as normal. All collections scheduled for the week April 13 (Easter Monday) will be one day later than normal. This includes a Saturday collection for those due on Friday, April 17.

Residents are reminded that the garden waste collections have not resumed due to staffing levels in relation to the current pandemic.

Waste from households with Covid-19

The Government advice is that waste from a house with cases of Covid-19 (or suspected Covid-19) should be placed in a bag, which is then sealed, placed inside another bag, which is also sealed, and then stored for 72 hours before being put out for collection.
