Work scheme to go digital

A PROJECT to get Copeland residents back to work is to go digital.
Sector Based Work Academies (SBWA), run by the Copeland Work and Skills Partnership, are to be delivered digitally to keep participants safe in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The new digital version of the course, which readies people for employment in particular industries, is to be trialled initially in the care sector. This follows an increase in care worker vacancies in domiciliary care and care homes.
Silecroft's new cafe given the go ahead

A NEW beach café at Silecroft is a step nearer after the project was granted planning permission this week.
The café, which will replace the current temporary structure, has been given the go ahead by planners at the Lake District National Park Authority.
It is part of the Connecting Cumbria's Hidden Coast project - a series of attractions and improvements to the footpaths linking Copeland's coast. It’s hoped the new café could be up and running some time in 2021, depending on the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Praise for officers

COPELAND Council’s leadership has praised the authority’s “dedicated and talented” workers for their response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, and Pat Graham, Chief Executive, have applauded the team’s efforts following the production of a graphic which shows a snapshot of the significant difference made by the council to the community over the first two months of the crisis.
The council has been on the front line locally of Government roll-outs and initiatives, and has been key in supporting some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.
