Copeland learners go online to boost job prospects

Copeland residents are continuing their learning and boosting their employment prospects, despite the health crisis.

The Copeland Work and Skills Partnership's latest work academy is arming participants with the skills needed to enter the leisure sector. Better Bodies, which is leading the training, has been delivering the learning online so people can still follow government guidelines on social distancing.

Mayor's thanks for recycling and waste support

COPELAND’s Mayor has extended his thanks to the community for supporting the council’s Recycling and Waste teams.

Mike Starkie has spoken of his gratitude to the community for “going the extra mile” in assisting the crews during the Covid-19 crisis by taking a number of helpful measures themselves.

Mr Starkie said: “Our crews are working incredibly hard in difficult circumstances, with significantly depleted numbers, to keep our recycling and waste collection services running, and I am truly grateful for all they are doing for our community.

Victims of domestic abuse urged to get help

COPELAND Council is urging victims of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation to get help now.

With two bank holidays coming up, and the added pressures of staying at home during the current social distancing measures, the Council is reminding residents of the specialist support it provides.

The Council introduced a specialist role to support victims of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation in 2018. So far, its officer has provided vital help to 81 women and men, and 85 children who had nowhere safe to stay.
