Polling cards on their way to Copeland residents

COPELAND residents will be sent their polling cards next week ahead of elections in May.

Residents will go to the polls to elect a Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria on Thursday, May 6. There are also by-elections for Copeland Borough Council’s Whitehaven Central ward - for a vacant seat alongside sitting councillors Eileen Weir and Charles Maudling - and Parton Parish Council.

Nominations for candidates open on March 25 and can be made until April 8.

Copeland launches its vision for 2040

A NEW Vision has been launched that sets out Copeland’s aspirations and objectives over the next 20 years.

Copeland Vision 2040 – produced by Copeland Borough Council – sets out a strategy of how the borough can become a globally-recognised place of innovation and opportunity; a major clean energy hub for the UK; and a sustainable place, with a resilient economy that supports thriving communities.

Play area transformation begins

A PLAY area in Cleator Moor is about to be transformed into an activity hub for all ages and abilities.

The new attraction will have zones for toddlers, older children and those who want to get really active.

Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie, said: "This amazing new facility is being funded by £102,000 from the £500,000 Cleator Moor Town Deal accelerated funding. It really will have something for everyone - all the play components have been carefully thought out and the town centre location is ideal.
