Deadline approaches for Local Plan consultation

COPELAND residents have until Sunday (October 17) to have their say on significant changes to the Local Plan that are being considered.

The Council is in the process of developing a new Local Plan, which will guide development and investment in the borough until 2038.

Local Plans are used to help decide on planning applications and other planning related decisions. They are the local guide to what can be built where, shaping infrastructure investments and setting out the vision for development in the borough.

Residents respond to climate change in Copeland

COPELAND residents have stepped forward in response to the climate change crisis.

Thirty residents joined Copeland Borough Council’s people’s panel in July and will now propose formal recommendations to the council and other organisations taking part, on where their priorities should lie to achieve the ambition of becoming a net-zero carbon borough.

Copeland People’s Panel on Climate Change met on 12 occasions, guided by environmental experts, to discuss what changes could be implemented to reduce Copeland’s carbon footprint and create a more sustainable future.

Council marks Baby Loss Awareness Week

COPELAND Council is marking Baby Loss Awareness Week with a living tree in its Chapel of Remembrance.

Residents are invited to place a tag on the tree with a personal message, during the national awareness week which is held from October 9 to 15.

After the event, the tree will be planted in a dedicated garden that will be developed in the grounds of Distington Hall Crematorium.

The chapel also has a memorial book for anyone who has been touched by the loss of a baby to write their tributes in.
