Call for volunteers as hidden garden comes back to life

Published: 29/09/2021

COPELAND Council's historical walled garden at Distington Crematorium is slowly coming back to life with the help of volunteers – and more are needed.

The Victorian walled garden was part of Distington Hall Mansion. For a time it was a thriving community garden, but it closed several years ago and slowly became overgrown and unloved.

The council would like to restore the garden, and much work has already been done by council staff, volunteers and the Community Payback service, who have cleared lots of thick undergrowth to reveal paths, statuary and even a small fountain.
