New future for Red Lion site

COPELAND Council has completed the purchase of the Egremont site where the Red Lion pub once stood.

The Council has partnered with BEC (Building Extraordinary Communities) to purchase the building and demolish the unsafe structure which has been derelict for almost two decades.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “This building has been an eyesore on the Egremont landscape since the mid-2000s.

Festive free parking in Copeland

COPELAND Council is offering free parking every weekend in December.

Selected council car parks in Whitehaven and Egremont will be free of charge on December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26.

Included in the offer is School House Lane, Senhouse Street, Whitehaven Sports Centre, The Beacon Museum, North Shore, The Copeland Centre and The Ginns all in Whitehaven, and Beck Green and Chapel Street car parks in Egremont.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “We hope residents and visitors take the opportunity to shop local in the run up to Christmas.
