New street furniture across Copeland
Published: 20/01/2022
NEW seating areas have been springing up across the borough as Copeland Council continues to welcome visitors back.
The picnic tables and benches are part of the Welcome Back scheme – a government-funded initiative to boost the look and feel of high streets and seaside towns. The funding helps councils prepare for the safe return of shoppers and tourists.
Copeland has already spent some of its £159,000 share of the Welcome Back Fund on a series of incredible videos promoting the area.
A cathedral of trees at Distington Crematorium
Published: 20/01/2022
COPELAND Council is creating a cathedral-like archway of trees where families can go to remember loved ones.
Volunteers are being invited to help in planting the saplings, which arrive at the end of the month.
The living cathedral of fruit trees will be situated in the Victorian Walled Garden within the grounds of Distington Crematorium. Volunteers have already created a lavender maze but this next venture is on a much bigger scale and the trees will need to be planted quickly.
