Council Christmas opening hours and waste collections

COPELAND Borough Council offices will be closed from 5pm on Thursday, December 23.

Council officers will be available again from 9am on Tuesday, January 4.

Distington Hall Crematorium office will close at 4.30pm on December 23 and will reopen on December 29, and will close again at 4.30pm on December 31 and will reopen on January 4. The Chapel of Remembrance is open from 9am until 4.15pm every day throughout the Christmas period.

Council wishes residents a green and merry Christmas

COPELAND residents are being asked to reduce, reuse and recycle this festive season.

There is always a large increase in recycling collected at Christmas, but the council is urging residents to reduce and reuse too – to create less waste in the first place.

Copeland’s Recycling Officer, Jan Boniface, said: “Christmas is the perfect time to have a go at upcycling, regifting, and crafting decorations from things that might otherwise go to waste.

“There is a host of tips on how to do this, many of them specially about Christmas, on our website.
