Students get the go ahead for internet café

STUDENTS from Whitehaven Academy successfully pitched an exciting internet café idea to a Dragon’s Den style board on Friday (December 13).
The ten pupils came up with the idea through their week-long work experience project designed by Well Whitehaven.
The Well Whitehaven initiative is designed to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in the Mirehouse and Corkickle communities.
Free festive parking on offer

COPELAND Council is offering free parking this festive period.
Nine of the car parks that the council runs will be free to use from Monday, December 23 to Wednesday, January 1 (inclusive).
Included in the offer is School House Lane, Senhouse Street, Whitehaven Sports Centre, The Ginns, The Beacon Museum and North Shore (all Whitehaven), Chapel Street and Beck Green (Egremont) and St Bees Foreshore.
A tenth car park – the Copeland Centre – will be free to use from December 25 to January 1 (inclusive)
Victims urged to come forward this Christmas

AS domestic abuse rates soar in December, victims are being encouraged to put an end to their suffering.
Domestic abuse incidents almost treble over the Christmas period, with 105 domestic abuse incidents reported in Copeland, in December 2018, 43 of these cases involved repeat victims.
Copeland Council introduced a specialist role to support victims of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation in 2018. Its officer has provided vital help to 81 women and men, and 85 children who were all homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Help for the homeless over the festive period

COPELAND residents who are at risk of becoming homeless over the Christmas period are urged to contact Copeland Council.
Early intervention is key for those at risk of homelessness with council staff able to provide the help and support needed to prevent residents becoming homeless.
