Time running out to comment on Local Plan

TIME is running out for Copeland residents to comment on a consultation that will help shape the future of the borough.
Members of the public have until Monday, January 20 to give their views to Copeland Council on a host of strategic issues including housing, employment, retail, energy, tourism and transport.
Bumper festive season for Copeland recyclers

COPELAND residents have pulled out all the stops to recycle in the recent holidays.
Over Christmas and new year, the average amount collected each week was 71 tonnes. This compares to an average of 65 tonnes over the rest of the year.
The increased card, paper, glass, plastic and metal created by the festive season is equivalent to an extra three lorry loads each week.
On the Saturday and Sunday between Christmas and new year - the team's busiest weekend - an impressive 40 tonnes were collected.
Public meetings into funding opportunities

TWO public information sessions are being held into potential funding opportunities for Millom and Cleator Moor.
Copeland Council has been invited by the Government to bid for up to £25million for each town from the national Towns Fund pot, and is creating local boards for Millom and Cleator Moor to help steer the bids.
The council has organised the meetings to share information on the fund and the bidding process, and to engage with residents, businesses and community representatives. All are welcome.

Mayor to hold public meetings

COPELAND Mayor Mike Starkie is holding two public meetings this month to discuss his budget plans.
Mr Starkie is hosting the events in Whitehaven and Millom to outline Copeland Council's proposed spending for 2020/21.
Aimed at both members of the business community and the wider public, the sessions will take place at Campus Whitehaven (the new St Benedict’s School and Mayfield school campus) on Tuesday, January 21 (6pm) and Millom Hub, Salthouse Road, on Thursday, January 23 (3.30pm). Both events will last 90 minutes.
