Bank holiday arrangements

COPELAND Council has the made the following arrangements for the coming bank holiday (Friday, May 8).

Household waste, recycling and garden waste collections scheduled on Friday will be collected as normal.

Monthly garden waste collections will start today (May 4) and residents can find out when their next collection will be at www.copeland.gov.uk.

Council starts garden waste collections

COPELAND Council is reminding residents that it is starting its garden waste collections today (Monday, May 4).

The counci's online calendars are now up-to-date to reflect new collection dates. Residents are asked to note that the day of the week their garden waste is collected remains the same but the council is collecting every four weeks instead of every two weeks in the current circumstances.

Community groups receive vital PPE supplies

COMMUNITY support groups in Copeland have received vital PPE supplies thanks to a local charity and its contributors.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including 300 bottles of hand sanitiser and 1,400 pairs of gloves were distributed locally.

Groups set up to assist communities through the current Coronavirus pandemic in Distington, Egremont, Ennerdale, Frizington, Seascale and Gosforth, St Bees and Whitehaven have received the goods today (Wednesday).  

Housing team accommodate 15 households

COPELAND Council’s housing team has accommodated 15 households during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The residents were homeless or threatened with homelessness, and have been provided temporary accommodation in the borough whilst a permanent housing solution is put in place.

Five of these households have now secured longer term accommodation, and the team are working tirelessly to secure longer term accommodation for the remaining households.

Copeland's towns pay tribute to NHS

COPELAND’S four towns will show their support to the NHS and key workers through a series of floral tributes.

Copeland Council, with the support of Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont and Millom Town Councils, is planting tributes in four prominent locations.

Hundreds of blue Lobelia flowers and a rainbow of Begonias have been planted, or will be planted over the coming days, in Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont and Millom, accompanied by white stone lettering.

Residents aim for secure employment

UNEMPLOYED residents in Copeland are ready for the world of work after successfully completing training with the Copeland Work and Skills Partnership.

The six-week work academy prepared candidates for security roles with CRS Facility Management. Four candidates are now hoping to take up roles as Safeguarding Officers or Cover Support Officers.

The training focused on pre-employment skills and practical work experience, and was jointly delivered by Copeland Work and Skills Partners.

Exciting behind-the-scenes work at Beacon Museum

WHILE the Beacon Museum in Whitehaven is closed to the public, behind the scenes work continues on exciting future projects.

Bears! - an interactive, family exhibition, wasn't able to open as planned at Easter, but it is ready to go when lockdown ends. It will then run until a date in September.

The museum's summer exhibition, Medieval Medicine, has been rescheduled to summer 2021.
