Free pet fun at St Bees

COPELAND Council is supporting a free event at St Bees, especially for dogs and their owners.

The community dog walk event is on July 11, from 11am until 3pm, and follows a successful one at Haverigg beach.

It is run by the Turning Tides Partnership, of which Copeland Council is a member. The event is part of the LOVEmyBEACH campaign for clean, safe beaches and seas.

Dog owners will be able to chat to Copeland Council's dog wardens, meet other owners and find out more about keeping beaches and seas clean.

Copeland's empty homes brought back to life

MORE than 30 long-term empty homes have been brought back into use, thanks to the work of Copeland Council.
The council has a dedicated Empty Homes Officer whose role is to work with private property owners to reduce the number of vacant homes in the borough.
During 2017/18, the officer worked with more than 100 owners to encourage them to bring their long-term empty property back into use; this has resulted in 33 properties being lived in again.

Bright future for Copeland pupils

THE FUTURE is bright for ten Copeland pupils as they graduate from a pioneering programme.

Ten pupils from the Energy Coast UTC have graduated from the Future Pathways programme run by Copeland Hub, and sponsored by Morgan Sindall.

The students have undertaken a ten-week programme which aims to prepare them for the future by teaching them skills through activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, bush craft and archery, alongside confidence building and team building exercises.

Top grade for council worker in Copeland

CAREERS are flourishing in Copeland as a council worker scores 97 per cent in prestigious qualification.

Gemma Coward, Senior Housing Options Advisor at Copeland Borough Council, completed a Level 5 Leadership and Management course - scoring 97 per cent.

Mrs Coward joined the council 16 years ago, aged 17, as an apprentice admin assistant and has amassed a wealth of experience in different departments across the council in housing, customer services, council tax and environmental health.

£100k to improve Copeland's business premises

MORE THAN £100,000 has been awarded to businesses in Copeland to improve the appearance of their premises.

So far grants totalling £104,000 have been awarded to 41 businesses in Copeland as part of Copeland Borough Council’s building grants scheme.

There is less than two months left to apply for a grant as the closing date for applications is September 1, 2018.
