Council launches best kept garden competition

COPELAND Council is in search of the borough’s best kept garden.
The Council is urging residents to showcase their outdoor spaces for a chance of winning a £50 voucher to be spent in a local Garden Centre.
Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “Over the last three months, many residents have turned to gardening as a way to keep busy and take their mind off the current pandemic.
“Gardens all around Copeland are currently flourishing, with flowers in full bloom, due to the early summer and some spending extra time at home during lockdown.
Top marks for Planning team

COPELAND Council continues to have one of the strongest performing planning departments in the country, according to end-of-year figures.
The council has one of the highest rates nationally for the speed in which it made decisions on planning applications in 2019/20, far exceeding government-set targets.
It also has one of the highest percentage of planning applications approved (98.5 per cent).
Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “This is an outstanding achievement for the team which continues its trend of, year after year, being among the country’s best.
