Council tackles domestic abuse in Copeland

COPELAND Council is tackling domestic abuse by highlighting its support service during the FIFA World Cup.

The council has supported 437 men, women and children to break free from domestic abuse, since its specialist service was introduced in 2017.

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “The first England match takes place today (Monday).

“This, alongside the cost of living crisis, and the added pressures of the upcoming festive season, will undoubtedly be a difficult time for those in abusive relationships.

Crematorium to hold Christmas memorial services

COPELAND Council will hold Christmas memorial services in December.

A service will be held at 6.30pm on both December 13 and 14, at Distington Hall Crematorium. It will include carols, music and readings - followed by light refreshments. 

Residents will have an opportunity to remember their loved ones by adding their name to an on-screen tribute list.

Guests can also hang a tag on the Christmas tree in memory of a loved one.

Creative Christmas market at the walled garden

DISTINGTON Walled Garden will host a creative Christmas market this month.

On Saturday, November 26, local crafters will join together to sell their festive fancies at Copeland Council’s Christmas market.

This will be the third event held at the walled garden since it was transformed over the last year.

Goods on offer will include plants, confectionery, antiques, crafts, needlework, candles, cocktails and Christmas creations.
