Harvest Festival draws near

PUMPKINS, scarecrows, and a covered market selling unique gifts, will arrive at Distington Walled Garden’s Harvest Festival this Saturday (October 29).

All are welcome to peruse market stalls from 14 local traders, enjoy hot drinks and snacks, and take in the autumnal surroundings.

The garden will be open from 10am until 4pm and there will be seasonal activities held throughout the day. Children can join in the fun and games with apple bobbing, and warm up with a hot dog.

Bus station development reaches awards finals

COPELAND Council’s planning team, and property developers BEC, have been chosen as finalists in a national awards scheme.

Last year the Bus Station development in Whitehaven won three awards in the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) regional awards ceremony.

Now it has been nominated as a finalist for the national level of the awards, in the ‘Excellence in Planning for Heritage and Culture’ and ‘Excellence in Planning for a Successful Economy’ categories.

Employability programme supports hundreds

More than 300 Copeland residents are now job-ready, thanks to a dynamic employment programme.

Building Momentum offered unemployed people training and experience tailored to specific industries and employers. It also gave wage subsidies to employers taking on trainees.

The Building Momentum employability support programme is delivered by Copeland Work and Skills Partnership (CWSP), which is led by Copeland Borough Council, and funded through the Sellafield Ltd Social Impact Multiplied Programme (SiX), and Copeland Community Fund.
