Council offers new service to businesses

BUSINESSES can now have more of their waste recycled, thanks to Copeland Borough Council.

The council has expanded its trade waste service to include glass, cans and plastic - these will be collected separately and sent for recycling. The new collection stream is in addition to the existing collections of general waste and paper and card for recycling.

Portfolio Holder for Recycling and Waste, Councillor Andy Pratt, said: "This is a welcomed expansion of our already successful service.

Roman sites celebrated in film

COPELAND council has commissioned a short film highlighting the incredible Roman history of West Cumbria.

The Hadrianic Frontier is launched today (Thursday, December 22), and will be shown at Muncaster Castle, The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven, and the  Senhouse Roman Museum in Maryport. Tullie House in Carlisle will also host the film on their website.

It highlights the wealth of Roman sites that exist beyond Hadrian’s Wall itself, including the Bath House at Ravenglass, and forts at Eskdale, Maryport, and Stanwix.

Whitehaven’s winter wonderland

CHILDREN from Copeland enjoyed a warm meal and gifts from Santa today (Wednesday) at a Winter Wonderland event.

More than 70 children, and their families, were treated to gifts bought by Copeland Borough Council staff, supported by a donation of £500 from Coombe & Sharpe.

The families that attended the event in the United Reformed Church, Whitehaven, enjoyed Christmas crafts and a meal cooked by volunteers.
