Life-enhancing facilities planned for Ravenglass

A FULLY- ACCESSIBLE changing room and toilet is to be installed at the La'al Ratty's Ravenglass station - providing life-changing freedoms for those with complex needs.

Copeland Council has drawn down £68,000 from the government’s Changing Places fund, designed to provide the right facilities for disabled people to wash, change and use the toilet safely and easily. The project will be delivered by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

Much loved gardener retires after almost 45 years

A HIGHLY valued employee of Copeland Council will retire tomorrow (Thursday) after almost 45 years’ service.

Ian Pearce, 63, has spent more than four decades nurturing the borough as part of the council’s parks and open spaces team.

Mr Pearce joined Copeland Council in 1978, starting at Beck Green nurseries, in Egremont, and moving on to maintaining Egremont Castle for 10 years.

Enjoy afternoon tea in Victorian garden

COPELAND Council is inviting people to enjoy a scrumptious Mother’s Day afternoon tea at the historic Distington Walled Garden.

The council will be running the event in partnership with Lakes College, on Saturday, March 18, and will be offering two sittings 12.30-2pm and 2.30-4pm.

It will be held in the soon to be open café in the garden bungalow.

Guests can enjoy a tasty afternoon tea and a manicure for £25 (or £20 without the nail care).

Council calls out to stall holders

COPELAND Borough Council is looking for stall holders for its upcoming events at Distington Walled Garden.

The events will take place as follows:

  • Easter Fete on April 15
  • Summer Fete on July 15
  • Harvest Festival on September 30
  • Winter Wonderland on November 25

Each event is supported by a seasonal range of activities such as cocktail making demonstrations, alpaca walking and children’s entertainment. 

Copeland Council up for prestigious national horticulture award

COPELAND Council’s Parks and Open Spaces team will represent the region in the 2023 Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom UK Finals, for their work in Whitehaven.

The team will compete in the coastal town category and has been nominated for its outstanding wildflower displays, community engagement and nature conservation.

The team was selected to represent Cumbria, following the success of the Cumbria in Bloom Gold Award for its horticulture work in Whitehaven, in partnership with Whitehaven Town Council.
