Young entrepreneurs invited to join town market

Published: 16/11/2020

COPELAND Council is inviting young entrepreneurs to get involved with Whitehaven’s relaunched town market.

The market has been closed since March due to Covid-19, and the council is taking the opportunity to carry out a review.

A late summer public survey attracted over 600 responses, and the council is analysing this significant level of feedback received as it plans the market’s future. A date for the market’s return is yet to be confirmed, and its continued absence is in line with compliance to government guidelines and regulations issued.

Crematorium to hold virtual Christmas service

Published: 16/11/2020

DISTINGTON Hall Crematorium will be hosting a virtual Christmas memorial service to offer people the chance to remember their loved ones this festive period.

The crematorium’s traditional Christmas memorial event cannot take place this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, so the team will instead produce a recorded service that can be viewed online.

The service will feature readings and a visual tribute, with the names of dearly departed loved ones scrolled on the screen.

Copeland Council launches budget consultation

Published: 13/11/2020

The council must save funds in 2021/22, due largely to the reduction in Central Government grants and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and is prioritising the delivery of its statutory commitments while increasingly using income and grants to run its discretionary services.
