Litter picking gear distributed across Copeland

Published: 31/01/2022

COPELAND Council is offering litter picking kits to every community in the borough.

Part of the £159,000 government-funded Welcome Back scheme, the initiative encourages people to take pride in their surroundings, and make it easier to access the right equipment for a clean-up.

The 20 kits include litter pickers, gloves, high visibility vests, first aid kits, bin bags, bag rings, hand sanitiser and a holdall to store the kit in.

They have been offered to all town and parish councils, and any community groups or individuals will be able to borrow them.

Copeland boasts safe swimming waters

Published: 26/01/2022

COPELAND'S coastline has been recognised for its safe, clean swimming water once again.

St Bees and Silecroft both received an ‘excellent’ water quality rating, which is the highest possible, and Seascale and Haverigg’s waters were both deemed ‘good’.

These findings help to reassure both locals and visitors that swimming and other water sports in Copeland’s coastal waters will be safe and enjoyable.

The bathing water classifications are based on monitoring data collected by the Environment Agency in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
