Better chances for Copeland children

PARTNERS have come together to create better lives for families in Copeland.

Copeland Council is working with the Howgill Family Centre on the 'Pre-birth and Beyond' project, funded by United Utilities, Copeland Community Fund and the Howgill Centre.

The Pre-birth and Beyond project will invest in children and parents, especially those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. It is launched this Friday, November 25, at 11am at the Howgill Centre on Catherine Street in Whitehaven.

Helping hand for Copeland job seekers

UNEMPLOYED Copeland residents could step confidently towards work through a new scheme.

The Copeland Work and Skills partnership runs ‘work academies’ to help people get the basic skills, experience and confidence to get back to work.

The latest academy is in partnership with fast food restaurant chain McDonalds, which currently has vacancies in its Whitehaven store.

Copeland's beaches make the grade

COPELAND'S four bathing beaches - managed by Copeland Borough Council - are all clean and two have excellent water cleanliness.

St Bees and Silecroft have excellent water quality, Seascale has good and Haverigg's is 'sufficient.' The findings mean locals and visitors to this picturesque coastline can swim and enjoy the beaches in confidence.

The Environment Agency tests water at designated sites each week from May to September, to ensure the water is safe and clean for swimming and other activities.
