Development Plan Documents

The Local Development Framework contains a portfolio of Local Development Documents (LDDs). Local Development Documents are generally Development Plan Documents (DPDs) or Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs).

Development Plan Documents (DPDs) set out the policy framework and allocations that will be used when determining planning applications in the Copeland Borough outside of the Lake District National Park. The production of DPDs will involve extensive consultation and will be the subject of independent examination.

The following DPDs will be produced:

Core Strategy and Development Management Policies 2012-2027

This DPD will set out the strategic issues for Copeland over the next 20 years and will establish the strategic policy framework within which all Local Development Documents (LDDs) must sit.  On 31 October 2012, Copeland Borough Council submitted its Core Strategy and Development Management Policies 2012-2027 document to the Secretary of State for independent examination under Regulation 22 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012. Visit the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies Examination webpage.

Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD)

The Site Allocations DPD will set out policies and proposals which allocate sites for development or earmark areas of land for protection and/or enhancement.  The current Proposals Map (with inset maps) is published as part of the Adopted Copeland Local Plan (2001-2016). The Proposals Map (once amended) will illustrate the boundaries of the spatial policies set out in the relevant Development Plan Documents (DPDs). It will be amended as each new DPD (particularly the Site Allocations DPD) is adopted or revised.
