The Council pays tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II
Bank holiday arrangements
As a mark of respect during Her Majesty the Queen’s state funeral on September 19, our offices will be closed on that day, and all waste and recycling collections will be one day later than normal that week.
This includes a collection on Saturday, September 24, for those due to be collected on Friday, September 23. (This is a one-off waste arrangement for the Queen’s funeral. For future bank holidays, we will revert to carrying out collections as normal on that day).
Distington Crematorium will be closed, but the Chapel of Remembrance will be open from 9am until 4pm.
Our out-of-hours emergency numbers are as follows:
*issues relating to homelessness and domestic abuse support - 01946 598300
*dangerous structures - 01946 598307
*flooding, sandbags requests for residential properties and serious food safety incidents - 01946 598300 (or email sandbags@copeland.gov.uk for sandbags).

Flowers
We ask that any remembrance flowers are left at Whitehaven’s Green Market gazebo, which is located directly opposite the Council’s Market Hall building.
Please note:
Please remove all wrapping and plastic as we will look to recycle the flowers after the official period of mourning.
Artefacts will not be accepted and should not be brought.
Candles will be accepted but must be laid on a sandy area.
Tributes may be moved for security reasons and to preserve the longevity of the flowers.
Decayed flowers will be removed offsite for composting.
