Local Plan Publication Draft Addendum Consultation

Consultation on Local Plan Publication Draft Addendum document (relating to Policy H9 – Gypsy and Traveller Allocation and Policy N5 – Water Resources)

We are running a six-week week public consultation on an addendum to the Local Plan Publication Draft. The addendum relates to changes to Policy H9 (Gypsy and Traveller Allocation) and Policy N5 (Water Resources). The addendum document will be submitted alongside the Publication Draft to the Planning Inspectorate in September who will then consider the amended policies along with any responses received through the Public Examination process. The consultation will run from July 13 until August 24 2022.

The addendum document is supported by a Habitats Regulation Assessment for Policy H9 and Policy N5 and an Intergrated Assessment (Incorporating Sustainability Appraisal, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Health Impact Assessment).

See our FAQs on the Gypsy and Traveller site allocation here.

If you would like to comment on the addendum document, please complete a representation form and send it, no later than August 24, 2022, to localplanconsultation@copeland.gov.uk. You can also post your completed representation form to:

Policy H9 – Gypsy and Traveller Allocation

This consultation follows on from a previous consultation that took place between 21st March and 3rd May 2022 which asked for views on 2 separate potential gypsy and traveller sites (GTW3 land at Greenbank and GTW5 Land at Sneckyeat). The Council took into consideration all responses received and a number of evidence documents when deciding which site to take forward into the addendum document as an allocation.

The Gypsy and Traveller Site Allocation evidence documents can be found here:

Any responses received to this earlier consultation will also be forwarded to the Planning Inspector.

Policy N5 - Water Resources

The issue of nutrient neutrality was introduced by Natural England (NE) in March 2022. The Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water Special Area of Conservation catchment area in the north of Copeland has been identified by NE as being affected by nutrient neutrality and the Addendum document therefore proposes changes to Policy N5 to address the issue.
