The Council submitted the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD for independent examination on 31 October 2012. Visit the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies Examination webpage.

This DPD will contain a number of policies to control the development and use of land, and will set out the design standards and criteria against which planning applications will be considered. The development of this document will be closely linked to the review of the Copeland Local Plan policies, many of which have been extended as saved policies beyond June 2009. The Council intends to produce the Development Management Policies DPD alongside the Core Strategy in order to: Show the link between the strategic policies and how detailed planning applications will be considered, giving an understanding about how the documents will work together; Reduce the time and resources required to produce both Local Development Documents (LDDs).

Stages of Production:

LDF Issues and Options Consultation

The Council produced a LDF Issues and Options Consultation Document which was available for comments between 28 May and 7 August 2009. This was the first stage in producing the Core Strategy DPD, Site Allocations DPD and Development Management DPD. The Consultation Document explained the scope and purpose of the LDF, set out a range of issues we think it should cover, and examined various policy options for change. The Consultation ended on 7 August 2009, a LDF Issues and Options Responses to Consultation Summary Report is available to view.  Visit the LDF Issues and Options Consultation Archived webpage.

Preferred Options for the LDF Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD

The Council then approved a Preferred Options consultation document for the Core Strategy and Development Management Policies DPD. The Preferred Options Consultation Document built upon the ideas that were discussed in the LDF Issues and Options consultation. The consultation period ran from 10 May to 30 July 2010.  Visit the Preferred Options Consultation for the Cores Strategy and Development Management Policies archived webpage.
