COPELAND Council wants to know more about how and why people use Whitehaven’s Castle Park.

The park was recently fitted with CCTV cameras and  new lighting, and more improvements could be in the pipeline.

Now, Copeland residents are being encouraged to fill out a survey that will guide the council in future decisions on the popular park, and inform funding applications.

Coun Andy Pratt, Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Open Spaces, said: “We want to know who uses the park and what they do there, so that any future changes or improvements fit with what’s needed by residents.

“We’re also asking people if they would be interested in joining a ‘Friends of Castle Park’ group. Similar groups hold events, get involved with caring for areas of the park, and work with councils to improve parks. The group would be supported by us and could be able to access to funding the council might not.”

The survey , which only takes a few minutes to fill in, can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/mr34n4dh.

Castle Park is now covered by CCTV cameras and additional lighting, thanks to the government’s Safer Streets Fund.
